Amy Sekhon
Registered Physiotherapist BSc, P.T, MCPA

Amy is well-regarded for being one of the most passionate and dedicated physiotherapist and absolutely loves what she does.

She graduated from Rajiv Gandhi University with Honours. She has been working in musculoskeletal physiotherapy ever since. Soon after she started, she realized there was much to learn and finishing her degree was just the beginning. She started with Craniosacral therapy in 2005 and found a new way to treat conditions like headaches, concussion, chronic neck and jaw pain. After which she did many other courses related to SI joint/Pelvis dysfunction and lower back pain.

But it wasn’t until 2008 when she started Osteopathy with the Canadian college of Osteopathy in Vancouver B.C. She realized how she can put all this knowledge together and that the body needs to be treated ‘as a whole’ instead of one part at a time. Principles of osteopathy taught her the importance of the body working as a whole and that the structure governs function. This was the time when she saw the importance of one-on-one hands on therapy and how just a few sessions can make a huge difference to patients’ treatments and get them closer to their goals.

She also started using visceral manipulation as another tool to better understand the underlying cause and how it can create chronic conditions for some patients. Osteopathy allowed her to have many tools in her bag and made it very easy to tackle chronic conditions. She finished her five year programme and is currently a thesis candidate.

Working with patients with concussion and headaches, she saw the need to do vestibular therapy as well, which she finished in 2013, and has been treating BBPV and various vestibular dysfunctions. Her background in craniosacral therapy has helped compliment the vestibular therapy.

Along with this, I emphasize the importance of educating all of my patients so that you know how to best take care of your health.

CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY

Craniosacral therapy (CST) uses a gentle touch to examine and manipulate the joints in the cranium or skull, parts of the pelvis, and spine.

Craniosacral therapy (CST) uses a gentle touch to examine and manipulate the joints in the skull, parts of the pelvis, and spine . It allows the therapist to assess the motility and mobility of the cranial bones. Once treated, it can relieve tension in the central nervous system and promotes a feeling of well-being by eliminating pain. It can be used for many conditions like cervicogenic headaches, sinus headaches, TMJ disorders, vestibular dysfunction, concussion, whiplash injuries, spinal disorders and more.

PELVIC FLOOR THERAPY

Pelvic Floor Therapy can consist of pre-and-post-natal care, delivery related pelvic girdle issues, prolapse, bowel and bladder issues, diastasis rectus abdominus (DRA), and sexual health.

Women’s health has a wide spectrum of pathologies and treatments. It can consist of pre- and post-natal care, delivery related pelvic girdle issues, prolapse, bowel and bladder issues, diastasis rectus abdominus (DRA), and sexual health. Getting a trained therapist to assess and guide you with the right exercise can make a huge difference in your well being. Your session will be held in a relaxed private setting with a therapist who is specifically trained in pelvic health and you will be educated on what the issue is, how it can be addressed and what you can start doing from the 1st session onward to improve your symptoms.
